There seems to exist an awful lot
of confusion as to the nature of karma, and what it actually
is. You would not believe the various differing opinions adopted
by people, some of which are extremely outlandish, to say
the least. The very word karma seems to conjure up all sorts
of occult and mystical scenarios, none of which have any foundation
in truth. People generally prefer to accept the eternal damnation
or hellfire scenario, none of which is true. Period. So I
felt compelled to touch upon the subject, to do my bit, so
you can bypass any future confusion. Seen in a spiritual light,
karma is essentially the natural law of cause and effect,
or how I would prefer to call it, the natural law of the leveling
out of experiences. Buddhists have known about karma for literally
thousands of years, and If you study the teachings of Buddhism,
you will find these lines. "For every event that occurs,
there will follow another event whose existence was caused
by the first, and this second event will be pleasant or unpleasant
according as it's cause was skillful or unskillful."
In other words, for every action there
exists an equal and opposite reaction. To put it simply, remember
the verse in the bible which states, "as you sow, so
you shall reap". Your motives behind your actions in
thought, word or deed are of vital importance. This is the
naked and simple truth of it. There was not a person alive
who ever escaped that law, be they kings, queens or beggars.
Most of your karma was worked out in detail by yourself, and
with the help of others, prior to your incarnation. It all
depended on your need for your continual growth or evolvement.
In other words, it all depended on what you came down to earth
for, what you came down here to do, and how you handled those
lessons. There are no mysteries to the law of karma. The law
of karma exists simply because people exist. If you were the
only person alive on the face of the planet, there would be
no point in karma, since you would be unable to react against
another personality, and nobody would be able to react against
you.
You were not meant to live a solitary
life. What would be the sense in that? You cannot hide your
light under a bushel. Since you live on earth and are removed
from divinity, you will as a result stray from the path. You
were meant to do just that. In doing so you will collect a
certain amount of karma, to give you an idea of just where
you went wrong. Look, if you read the bible, you will come
across a line which says, that you ought to align your will
to the will of god, (so as to avoid the unpleasantness of
anothers negativity). Since there is no way of knowing that
your will does indeed represent Gods will, you are instantly
confronted with a bit of a problem. Off course, this has been
achieved by many, if you look back in history, but choosing
this type of life is the hardest thing. So in the absence
of that choice you will collect karma. It is that simple.
