MEDITATION

When you look at the world today, this overcrowded and noisy, violent little pebble suspended in space, you will find no respite from the never-ending distractions. This planet is so polluted by noise and light, even at night, there seems to be no escape. Mankind is existing within a very deep sea of negativity. Everyone of us is touched by it, be it bereavement, guilt, various sorrows or the imprisonment of ones heart. There are as many reasons to feel negative on this earth, as there are stars in the heavens. There will be questions like, why are we here or what is the purpose to my life, where am I going or where did it all go wrong, the list is endless and it is all to easy to ignore the things of the spirit. This is where Meditation will help. It is the most natural way to answer most questions. Almost all human questions, the myriad of troubles which can beset you, are answerable and within your reach. If you can formulate a question, you can be sure that there is an answer. There is a secret voice within the very core of your being, the innermost centre of your heart, that beckons to be heard. It is the prompting of the spirit to be still and the need to learn to listen. It is the love of god and spirit, the key to all and everything, which invites you to discover it. It invites you to let go of the attachments of your present condition, things and circumstances which do not serve your higher path.

Once you have made up your mind to deliberately develop your spirituality and practice meditation on a regular basis, you will find that you have discovered a passkey to unlock all doors. In time your inner vision will become clear and your understanding will correspond to it. Spiritual truths will make themselves known to you in a manner you would not have previously conceived of. As a searcher for the truth you will have become something like a builder, so let us build something beautiful like a palace and not a rickety shed. I have already touched on the subject of trust elsewhere on this site. Here again this will be of importance. Trust and faith are the cornerstones on which the house of your spiritual awareness is built upon. All spiritual awareness arises from the heart and not the mind. This is a very common mistake a lot of people make in the beginning of their search. However, if you put your trust in god and spirit, you will not be disappointed. Spirit will understand your needs and are always willing to supply you with them. Meditation will give you the opportunity to discover spirits endeavors of contacting you. You will also find, that there is a very big difference between your wants and your needs however, I hope you understand this. The proper way to meditate will not be mastered in one day, as it will have to become a way of life for you. It is entirely possible that you inadvertently open a can of worms once you realise your shortcomings, and the amount of work yet to be achieved. On the surface, meditation seems easy enough, but the road to your spiritual goal can be hard and full of obstacles. So don't be disheartened, if you answer the prompting of your heart, you will find the God-centre within you, which so long eluded you, and become free. It truly is the art of becoming, so allow yourself to become. You will have found a world of abundance and everlasting love, which will enrich every aspect of your life.

On your journey of discovery you will find many different types of meditation offered to you. In fact, it is a veritable minefield. It will seem that every religious organisation and every faith imaginable will try to sell you their particular style of meditation, and you will have to sift through the majority of them and find out what works best for you. Virtually thousands of books have been written on the subject, so you will have no shortage of material. Once you are burning with the fires of enthusiasm, it is part of the process to accept or reject the various materials you are presented with, but knowing that you are finally on the right path is fun, and will make your journey more interesting.

"Don't put in special efforts to witness, just be in a relaxed condition.
You are studying your mind movements at mind level....
You are practicing witnessing, you are not being the witness.
There is no special effort to be made; it just takes place.
About concentration: it is something like running around trying
to take a photograph of the government of Bombay. Can you
take a photograph of the government?.... Why do you
follow these exercises? Give them up. Just be relaxed in your
natural state; that is the highest state. The lower state is
concentration and meditation."

Nisargadatta Maharaj, Seeds of Consciousness (dialog of Sept. 27. 1979)
