TRANSFORMATION

Some people told me, that no matter how many books they read, they still do not seem to be going anywhere fast spiritually or are not arriving at some sort of illusory spiritual destination. They imagined there were shortcuts in the form of intensive study. They wanted to increase their knowledge on these subjects fast, and they assumed that the more books they read on the topics, the faster they would develop. Many would read anything as long as the word "spirit" was present, whether the information was conflicting or not, and soak in those words like a sponge as if their very existence depended on it. It appeared, no matter how much they studied, their intellect would simply not be satisfied, and their hearts would be left wanting. Well, the bad news is, that you could exhaust entire libraries dedicated to self-development, and yet this would still not help you to become enlightened. Cerebrally you may know many things and pick up a lot of interesting information along the way, but that is all you would achieve. For myself, I guess I have never really been a lover of this type of spiritual shopping, because indiscriminate reading can serve to confuse rather than inform. I fell into this trap myself many years ago. Of what use is cleverness and being intellectual, when your heart is still closed off? I personally know many mediums who are not learned, who have not studied and have not the slightest interest in acquiring any sort of book knowledge. They may not be the best public speakers in the world, and may have a limited vocabulary, and yet they are fantastic mediums with a great link to the spirit world, which is verifiable by the enormous amount of work they do. So how did they achieve this?

I am not saying that reading up on the subject is in any way bad or counter productive, but the fact is, that alone wont make you any more spiritual. So what's the secret, what can be done to get you one step nearer to your goal? You must have heard the old saying, that "you have got all the things that you need for your spiritual growth already within you". This is a fact. More to the point, this is a spiritual fact that you will not be able to escape from, no matter what you do. Some of you may groan and say "boring" and there must be another way, others will simply reject this simple truth. If they do, then they will no doubt gravitate towards this fact at some later date. There is a lesson to be learned here, that any growth is to be achieved by "doing" or by "action", by taking an active part in answering the call of spirit to serve, something which will lead to true understanding. I can speak from personal experience, that the moment I made the conscious decision to serve was the beginning of a new and exciting time, which transcended anything I may have gleaned or learned from books, no matter how intensely esoteric they may have been. Spirit needs you to understand, that service is the coin of the realm, and will try to pull you gently into that sort of commitment. Not in any religious sense, but you will have to come to the inescapable conclusion, that "you working for spirit will have you add light to the world". Light which was hitherto not there before you started out on your journey, but which is sorely needed on a planet with so much darkness. You will find that you may become very adept in the concept of Light-infection, which will feel like a blessed addiction.

To make this jump and plummet into a live of spiritual service can be difficult at first. But let us not forget, that mediumship or healing for example, is achievable and a service that you can provide, if you so choose. There are off course any number of ways to spiritually express yourself. This sort of life may not always be comfortable or what you desire for yourself. It can be a burden and a blessing in equal measure, but the rewards are quite literally incalculable. To be spiritual is to be of benefit to others; it is a kind of spiritual act of self-sacrifice, something which will not go unnoticed. Try not to look at it as an obligation or a duty; it is wiser to embrace it like the blessed opportunity that it is. You can call it "the great awakening" if you like, because that is what will happen. You have to try to recognise the pure light within your own heart and learn to trust in the reality of that light. However, once the commitment to serve is made, slowly but surely there will be a transformation taking place. An inner knowing will crystallise within you that you are being guided by a power that cares for the welfare of your soul, and your uniqueness and your place within this universe, and the interconnectedness of all things.

We certainly live in interesting times, and the opportunities to serve are literally endless and without limit. All things will pass eventually, people must change, as you will change. Opportunities will come and go on a daily basis. It is the act of divine unfoldment, because in this universe, change is the only constant. But everything, and I mean everything, is an aspect of spirit, and this you will have to discover in you own good time. You can change this world for the better as you strive to be of service to others. Don't wait for the world to change in your favour, rather change yourself for the benefit of the world. It starts with you. You are important. The love of spirit is with you always, never doubt that.
