Well, I think I will be in danger of stating the obvious here,
but this is the year 2006. We are six years into the New Millennium,
the first rays of the dawning of the New Age has come upon us,
and by now there will be an awful lot of knowledge, adopted
or acquired, which you will/can probably draw upon in your quest
for spiritual enlightenment. You may not be aware of it, but
a lot of stuff which you adopted along the way may well be obsolete,
that means outmoded or surplus to requirements. It is time to
embrace new things and let go of some the old. Now I know what
that sounds like, since many of you have studied a holistic
way of life for a long time. You probably spend a lot of money
and bought book after book in dedication to your quest, always
searching tirelessly for that snippet of information which you
imagined would bring you one step further to you goal. Now it
is time to let go of some of these notions you held dear for
so long, because some of those old ideas are just plain daft,
and belong to a different age. I would like to have a closer
look at some of those old traditions and superstitions, so with
no further ado let us have a quick look at the practice of prayer.
A great many of you are accustomed to
pray to God morning to night, not just once or twice, but
incessantly and tirelessly in the hope that he may hear you
and grant you a favourable outcome to a situation, which you
insist may need divine intervention. Or you may pray for strength
when things are tough, or you might just pray out of habit,
simply because you was told by your parents or your peers
that this was the only reliable way to talk to God. So here
is my question. Why do you pray so repeatedly to the point
of obsession? Are you assuming that God has not heard you
the first time you prayed that day, and so you do it again
and again, just to make sure? Maybe you believe that God only
speaks to his favourite sons and daughters, his chosen few,
and you obviously would like to be included in this imaginary
hierarchy. Please understand that God doesn't play favourites.
Also, many will only pray at specific times, and in specific
ways. To be honest, this sounds like God is only available
at office hours. God hasn't got a 9-5 job! As strange as it
all sounds it is worth talking about, because all the things
which I have mentioned here have their roots in a fear-based
belief system, and this is highly undesirable. I want you
to always remember, that all fears are illusions of the first
waters and that (especially) includes spiritual fears of all
kinds. Should you doubt God and spirit, then you are inviting
fear to enter your life's. Fear and love together do not a
pairing make! Fears of any kind are by definition designed
to hold you back in your progress- any progress. The only
thing fear begets is more fear. Just think for a moment. We
all have our being within God, and there is absolutely no
place in the universe which is not a part of him. He is expressing
himself through his creations, and that means us. That in
turn means, that we are all gods in the making since we are
all trying to be reunited with the divine and as such have
need of truth, not fears and superstitions. If you are one
of those people who are hugging your fears close to you, please
learn to recognise them, let them go and embrace love instead,
because after all is said and done, the love of God and Spirit
will be the only thing that remains once you let go of your
old concepts. Coming back to prayer, the next time you pray,
and I know this is hard, try not to request anything of God.
According to the laws of manifestation it is by far the wiser
thing to give thanks to the things or conditions "you
have not yet got", because by doing so you will quite
literally create them. Thought is a creative force, never
underestimate this. You may not know this, but it is an undeniable
fact. So try it, next time you pray make it a prayer of thanksgiving,
of gratitude, and you will find that there is definitely a
much better feeling attached to it, because the process has
become so much more uncomplicated. Your love can pour out
so much easier, because you are not requesting anything, you
are creating instead. You all got the power of creation within
you, and there is no limit to the things you can do, spiritually,
emotionally and indeed physically. This site is called "the
art of becoming", so allow yourself to become; simply
create a better version of your self. This you are doing all
the time anyway, for better or sometimes for worse, you might
just not be aware of it yet. Creation is God's gift to you,
and that has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with religion
or religious thought.
Another outmoded concept is the apparent
need for ritualistic behavior. Some people will not burn black
candles for instance. They somehow adopted this fear, that
should they do this, they would in some way attract evil to
them. This is of course not true, just use your God given
reasoning for a minute and you will come to the same conclusions.
It's just a superstition which they have adopted along the
way. Incidentally, the fusion or merging of all colours will
result in black; isn't that ironic? There are many such examples.
Here are some more favourites. Some will place flowers in
their living space in the hope that it will keep ghosts and
unfriendly entities at bay. Some will not keep black cats,
some will endlessly cross themselves in the hope it will protect
them from harm, and still others have a morbid fear of the
dark. You all know the "mustn't walk underneath a ladder,
because of..." scenario. Then there are 101 uses for
salt, mostly protective of course. There are an awful lot
of people out there, who insist it is only safe to do "guided"
meditations. What on earth could be the reason for that? Some
will not meditate at all in bad weather conditions! Here is
a good one, apparently only priests, or generally people of
the cloth have the power to bless another human being. Now
that really is daft. Every person, and I really mean every
person on this earth has the power to give blessings, believe
it. This is just another archaic manipulation concept. Here
is another, there are millions who insist that they will go
to hell, should they live what they would consider a sinful
life. Well you can all rest easy, because the simple truth
is, that there is no such place in spirit called hell, and
there is certainly no such condition. There is no hell, no
devil with a pitchfork, no anti-christ or any other such entity,
and there is no one sitting in judgment over you. "Spirit
will not condemn one another", period! There is an endless
supply of superstitious and superfluous beliefs, and to try
and list them all would probably result in me losing my will
to live. Suffice it to say, you must try to rid yourself of
them once and for all. There are of course a great many individuals
out there, who may not feel the need for any sort of change.
It is possible, that their ego will not yet allow them the
required determination for self observation. No doubt they
will gravitate towards this decision at some later date. You
must understand, that a certain level of maturity is called
for here, which I assume you all possess, otherwise you would
not be reading this.
Human consciousness/awareness is an
ever evolving thing and loathes barriers of any kind, because
barriers will hinder your evolvement. So please do yourselves
a favour and learn to unlearn. It is so easy to do, and you
will feel a hell of a lot lighter without all that extra emotional
baggage. You will not succeed in creating a better version
of yourself, if you fear Life. I would like to encourage you
to explore yourselves, and in doing so to free yourselves.
Once you are free of old fears and concepts, you are able
to express yourself better and take better charge of your
destiny, a destiny which hopefully has love and awareness
at it's foundation. Take it from me, that Love is the "ultimate"
reality, it's all there is!
